Born 22 June 1805, Mazzini trained as a lawyer but turned to journalism and conspiracy, driving the Risorgimento through pamphlets and secret societies rather than armies. His vision of a unified, republican Italy clashed with monarchists, and his reliance on uprisings brought repeated failure and exile. Yet his ideas traveled: they shaped the Italian Constitution, seeded European republicanism, and reached independence movements in India and China.
