Christopher Scott Kyle was born April 8, 1974, and served as a United States Navy SEAL sniper through four tours in the Iraq War. His service earned him one Silver Star and three Bronze Star medals with "V" devices for valor, making him one of the most prolific snipers in military history by kill count. After his honorable discharge in 2009, he published American Sniper in 2012 - a bestseller that also contained incidents later shown to be unverifiable or fabricated, including alleged shootings in New Orleans and Dallas, and a story that prompted Jesse Ventura to sue him for defamation. On February 2, 2013, Kyle was murdered by Eddie Ray Routh, a former Marine, at a shooting range near Chalk Mountain, Texas. Routh was convicted and sentenced to life without parole, and Clint Eastwood's film adaptation, starring Bradley Cooper, arrived in 2014.
