She married the future king, and the attention never left. Catherine's public life - from university meet-cute to cancer diagnosis - plays out under a scrutiny so intense it bends fashion markets and reshapes royal protocol around privacy.

About this person

Born in Reading in 1982, Catherine Middleton grew up in Berkshire and studied art history at the University of St Andrews, where she met Prince William in 2001. After graduation in 2005, she worked various jobs and did charity work until their engagement was announced in November 2010. They married at Westminster Abbey on 29 April 2011, making her Duchess of Cambridge; the couple have three children - George, Charlotte, and Louis. She became Princess of Wales in September 2022 when William received the title from King Charles III. Her royal work centres on early childhood, addiction, and the arts through the Royal Foundation, and she co-launched the Heads Together mental health campaign in 2016. In early 2024, she was diagnosed with cancer, underwent chemotherapy, and returned to duties later that year.
