Born in London in 1991 and raised in Milan, Carlo Acutis spent his childhood learning to program and design websites while serving as a catechist in his parish. He built a site cataloguing Eucharistic miracles and Marian apparitions, blending his technical skill with religious devotion. In 2006, at fifteen, he was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukaemia and died within weeks. The Church beatified him in 2020 after recognising a 2013 miracle in Campo Grande attributed to his intercession, then canonised him in September 2025 following a second miracle in Italy the year before. Childhood friends remember him as kind but not conspicuously pious, and questions linger about whether his family's financial support shaped the pace of his path to sainthood.
