He won Olympic gold in 1988 and then became the answer to a South Park song lyric - a strange second act of fame for a figure skater who'd already claimed every major title in his sport.

About this person

Brian Anthony Boitano grew up in Sunnyvale, California, and by the mid-1980s had stacked four straight U.S. National titles. He took World golds in 1986 and 1988, then capped the run with Olympic gold in 1988. He turned professional that year, left the competitive circuit, and seemed done - until new ISU rules let him return in 1993. He skated at the 1994 Winter Olympics and placed sixth. Two years later he entered both the World and U.S. Figure Skating Halls of Fame, the career sealed and the competitive chapter closed.
