Italian painter (1486-1530)
He was called "the faultless painter" in Florence during the High Renaissance — a fresco master and colourist who worked without errors — then had the misfortune of dying in an age dominated by Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael.
Andrea del Sarto was born in Florence on 16 July 1486, and his career unfolded during the High Renaissance and early Mannerism. He built a reputation as an outstanding fresco decorator, altarpiece painter, portraitist, and draughtsman, earning the nickname "senza errori" — without errors — for his technical command. During his lifetime he was highly regarded, but after his death on 29 September 1530, his renown dimmed in the long shadow cast by Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael.
