Born 7 March 1955, Alwaleed bin Talal is grandson to both Saudi Arabia's first king and Lebanon's first prime minister. He founded Kingdom Holding Company and grew it into a conglomerate with over $18 billion in market capitalization by 2013, acquiring Paris' Four Seasons Hotel George V and a piece of New York's Plaza Hotel along the way. Time called him the "Arabian Warren Buffett" and put him on its 2008 list of the hundred most influential people in the world. In November 2017, Forbes pegged his net worth at $39.8 billion and ranked him the world's 7th-richest man. Days later he was arrested with other prominent Saudis in Mohammed bin Salman's consolidation sweep, facing allegations of money laundering, bribery, and extortion. He walked out of the Ritz-Carlton on 27 January 2018 after nearly three months and some undisclosed settlement, then vanished from Forbes' billionaires list for lack of current information.
