American minister, academic and African nationalist (1819–1898)
Alexander Crummell was a minister, author, abolitionist, and academic. Born to free black parents in New York City, Crummell attended various educational institutions and was ordained as an Episcopal priest in the United States. He was a member of Prince Hall Freemasonry.
