Aleksander Čeferin was born on 13 October 1967 in Slovenia and trained as a lawyer. He spent five years leading the Football Association of Slovenia, from 2011 to 2016, before stepping up. In September 2016 he became president of UEFA, the body that governs football across Europe. The move placed him at the center of the sport's richest and most politically tangled confederation, a long way from the national federation where he started.
