About

Born around 870, Abu Nasr Muhammad al-Farabi worked across logic, metaphysics, political philosophy, ethics, and music theory, weaving them into a framework that went beyond his Greco-Roman and Syriac predecessors. He presented philosophy as a unified discipline to the Islamic world and created a system distinctly his own, one that later thinkers would mine for centuries. His influence ran through Avicenna, Averroes, Maimonides, and reached as far as Albertus Magnus in the Latin West.
