## Bio

Viktor Emil Frankl was born in Vienna on 26 March 1905 and trained as a neurologist and psychiatrist. He developed logotherapy — a school of psychotherapy positioning the search for life's meaning as the central human motivator — which he promoted as the third Viennese school after Freud's and Adler's. Then came the camps. Frankl survived multiple Nazi concentration camps, and what he witnessed there became the foundation of his best-selling autobiographical work, Man's Search for Meaning. He went on to write 39 books, anchoring existential and humanistic psychology with a framework forged in the darkest laboratory imaginable. He died on 2 September 1997.
