# Vanessa Redgrave

> She's won an Oscar, a Tony, two Emmys, and an Olivier - one of the vanishingly few to claim the Triple Crown of Acting. Vanessa Redgrave built that over six decades, crossing stage and screen with a force that's never softened.

## Bio

Born 30 January 1937, daughter of Sir Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, she debuted on stage in A Touch of Sun in 1958 and hit film the same year in Behind the Mask alongside her father. Prominence came in 1961 playing Rosalind in As You Like It with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Film breakthrough arrived with Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment in 1966 - the first of six Academy Award nominations - then Blowup, Camelot, The Devils, Murder on the Orient Express. She won Best Supporting Actress for Julia in 1977. Broadway gave her a Tony for Long Day's Journey into Night in 2003; the West End, an Olivier for The Aspern Papers. She married Italian actor Franco Nero, raised actresses Joely and Natasha Richardson, and kept working: Atonement, Coriolanus, Foxcatcher. The accolades stacked - BAFTA Fellowship, Golden Lion, American Theatre Hall of Fame - but the through-line was always the same: she showed up, did the work, and left rooms quieter.
