Todd Blanche spent eight years prosecuting violent crimes in the Southern District of New York before making partner at Cadwalader in 2017, where he began representing figures in Trump's orbit: Paul Manafort, Igor Fruman, Boris Epshteyn. In April 2023 Trump hired him to fight the Stormy Daniels hush-money case, and Blanche led the defense through the 2024 trial and the federal charges that followed. After Trump won the 2024 election he tapped Blanche for deputy attorney general; the Senate confirmed him in March 2025. Two months later Trump fired the librarian of Congress and installed Blanche in that role too, triggering a dispute over whether the appointment was legal. In April 2026 Trump dismissed attorney general Pam Bondi and Blanche stepped in as acting AG; the Senate confirmed him permanently that August.
