# Tatu Ylönen

> Tatu Ylönen is a Finnish computer scientist and entrepreneur best known for creating the Secure Shell (SSH) protocol in 1995. He is the founder and chief executive of SSH Communications Security, the company he established to develop and commercialise the technology. The SSH protocol became the standard for encrypted remote access on the internet, replacing unencrypted predecessors such as Telnet and rsh. Ylönen was a principal author of the IETF SSH protocol standards and principal author of NIST Interagency Report 7966 on SSH key management.
