## Bio

Born in Tokyo in 1954 into a political dynasty — son of an LDP politician, grandson of a prime minister — Abe graduated from Seikei University, worked in industry, and entered the House of Representatives in 1993. He rose quickly: party secretary-general, Chief Cabinet Secretary under Koizumi, then prime minister in 2006 at age fifty-two, Japan's youngest post-war premier and the first born after the war. A staunch conservative, he pursued constitutional revision, initiated the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue to counter China, and resigned in 2007 amid unpopularity and illness. In 2012 he returned, leading the LDP to landslide victory and launching "Abenomics" to restart Japan's stalled economy. He passed controversial security legislation in 2015, won elections in 2014 and 2017, and became Japan's longest-serving leader before resigning again in 2020. Two years later, delivering a speech in Nara, he was killed by a gunman motivated by his ties to the Unification Church — a polarizing end for a polarizing figure.
