## Bio

Yunus Özyavuz was born in Samsun in 1978, worked as a DJ at a local station, then moved to Istanbul to study Persian language and literature at Istanbul University while soaking up the African records his father played and the Italian music his mother preferred. He founded the hip-hop group Kuvvetmira in 1998 under the name Silahsız Kuvvet, appeared on the compilation Yeraltı Operasyonu in 1999, then rebranded as Sagopa Kajmer and released a self-titled album in 2002. The albums came in steady succession - Bir Pesimistin Gözyaşları in 2004, Romantizma in 2005 - and in August 2005 he launched his own label, Melankolia Müzik. In 2006 he married fellow rapper Kolera, and the two released joint albums in 2007 and 2010 alongside his solo work. Since 2011 he has released four more studio records, the latest being Kağıt Kesikleri in 2022.
