Raffaella Maria Roberta Pelloni was born on 18 June 1943 and broke into Italian film before 20th Century Fox brought her to Hollywood, where she worked opposite Frank Sinatra, Edward Mulhare, and James Coburn. She also appeared in French and Spanish productions alongside Marcello Mastroianni, Jean Marais, and directors like Mario Monicelli. But the real turn came when she pivoted to music and television in the 1970s: 25 studio albums released across 37 countries, singing in Italian, Spanish, English, and French, with hits like "A far l'amore comincia tu," "Fiesta," and "Tuca tuca" that made her a pop culture fixture and an icon for feminism, LGBT communities, and fashion. She hosted major TV programs in Italy, Spain, and Argentina, collecting 12 Telegatto and two TP de Oro awards along the way. She died on 5 July 2021, and that September the Venice Film Festival gave her a posthumous award for her contributions to Italian music and showmanship.
