## Bio

Born Lady Alice Christabel Montagu-Douglas-Scott on 25 December 1901, she was the daughter of the 7th Duke of Buccleuch, Scotland's largest landowner. Her marriage to Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester — third son of King George V and Queen Mary — made her a princess and tied her to the inner circle: sister-in-law to two kings, Edward VIII and George VI, and aunt by marriage to Elizabeth II. She had two sons, Prince William of Gloucester and Prince Richard, who became Duke of Gloucester. Widely travelled before and after the wedding, she moved through a century of royal duty and private loss. When she died on 29 October 2004, she had outlasted them all, the oldest member the family had ever known.
