## Bio

Porus ruled the region between the Vitasta and Asikni rivers in what is now Punjab. Greek sources describe him as a warrior of exceptional skill. In 326 BC he met Alexander the Great at the Battle of the Hydaspes. The outcome was unusual: rather than being deposed, Porus kept his kingship. Alexander reinstated him as satrap and expanded his domain south-east to the Hyphasis River. He died sometime between 321 and 315 BC, remembered in Greek accounts as the opponent who earned terms instead of subjugation.
