## Bio

Philolaus was born around 470 BC in a Greek colony in Italy, later migrating to Greece, and became the most outstanding figure in the Pythagorean school after Pythagoras himself. He may have been the first to commit Pythagorean doctrine to writing. His philosophy held that everything arose from the interplay of the limiting and the limitless, which combine in harmony. He argued that Earth was not the center of the universe, proposing instead a Central Fire around which all spheres — including the Sun and Earth — revolved. That cosmology, strange as it now reads, marks the earliest known step toward heliocentrism, the idea that would eventually dethrone Earth from the middle of everything.
