## Bio

Peter Claver Cullen was born July 28, 1941, and built a career giving voice to characters who lived at opposite ends of the emotional spectrum: the gloomy donkey Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh, the excitable Monterey Jack in Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, the menacing KARR in Knight Rider, and the guttural predator in the 1987 film. But it was Optimus Prime in the original 1980s Transformers animated series that became his signature, a performance grounded in the advice of his Marine brother: be strong enough to be gentle. In 2007, he returned to the role for the live-action films, introducing the character to a second wave of fans. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences gave him a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023. He died August 26, 2026.
