Paolo Rossi was born 23 September 1956 and signed to Juventus from Vicenza in 1976 for a world record fee, though Vicenza kept him on loan. He topped Serie B in 1977, led his side to promotion, then became the first player to win the scoring title in Serie B and Serie A in back-to-back seasons with 24 goals in 1978. He finally joined Juventus in 1981 and collected two Serie A titles, the Coppa Italia, the Cup Winners' Cup, the Super Cup, and the European Cup. At the 1982 World Cup he scored six goals to claim the Golden Boot and Golden Ball, then took the Ballon d'Or that year — the only man to win all four in the same season. His nine World Cup goals across tournaments tie him with Roberto Baggio and Christian Vieri as Italy's all-time leader. After retiring he worked as a pundit for Sky, Mediaset Premium, and Rai Sport until his death on 9 December 2020.
