# Nafata of Gobir

> Nafata was Sarkin Gobir from about 1797 to 1798. He is chiefly remembered for imposing restrictions on the activities of the Islamic scholar and reformer Usman dan Fodio, measures that contributed to the growing political and religious tensions which eventually culminated in the Fulani War and the establishment of the Sokoto Caliphate.
