# Mike Horn

> A solo year and a half on foot around the equator, no motors. Then two years circling the Arctic alone. Then the North Pole in winter darkness with one partner, no dogs, no machines. Horn builds his reputation by stripping away every comfort and seeing what's left.

Three years later he spent over two years circumnavigating the Arctic Circle solo. In 2006 he and Norwegian explorer Børge Ousland reached the North Pole in permanent winter darkness, the first to do it without dogs or motors. He lives now in Château d'Œx, a long way from anywhere warm.
