> Melford Obiene Okilo was a Nigerian politician who served as a member of parliament from 1956 to 1964 and as a minister during the Nigerian First Republic. He was the first elected governor of Rivers State, Nigeria, serving from 1979 to 1983 during the Nigerian Second Republic. Later he represented Bayelsa East as a senator in the Nigerian Fourth Republic from 1999 to 2003.
