Marsha Hunt was born Marcia Virginia Hunt on October 17, 1917, and stepped into films in the late 1930s, landing early roles like Born to the West with John Wayne in 1937. The 1940s brought her into prestige territory: Pride and Prejudice in 1940 with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier, Kid Glove Killer in 1942, Cry 'Havoc' in 1943 alongside Margaret Sullavan and Joan Blondell, and The Human Comedy that same year with Mickey Rooney. Then the 1950s arrived and Hollywood studio executives blacklisted her during the McCarthyism sweep, severing her from steady work. She returned for Raw Deal in 1948 and The Happy Time in 1952 with Charles Boyer, and decades later appeared in Dalton Trumbo's Johnny Got His Gun in 1971. After the blacklist years she turned outward: fighting world hunger, aiding homeless shelters, supporting same-sex marriage, raising the alarm on climate change, and promoting peace in the Third World.
