It was the nation's second consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics since its debut in 1984. The delegation consisted of three athletes competing in one sport, archery. Bhutan did not win any medals at Seoul, nor in any previous Olympics. Pema Tshering served as the team's flag-bearer in the opening ceremony.
