## Bio

Jeffrey Epstein started as a math teacher at the Dalton School before moving into banking and finance, eventually building a fortune advising billionaires on tax and estate planning. By 2005, Palm Beach police were investigating reports that he had paid a 14-year-old girl to strip and massage him; investigators identified 36 girls between 14 and 17 with similar accounts. A controversial 2008 plea deal let him serve just 13 months with work release after pleading guilty to procuring a minor for prostitution. A 2018 Miami Herald investigation reignited scrutiny, leading federal prosecutors in New York to indict him in July 2019 for sex trafficking minors between 2002 and 2005. He died by suicide in his jail cell on August 10, 2019, while awaiting trial; his associate Ghislaine Maxwell was later convicted for trafficking girls to him, and his estate and the banks that serviced him have paid hundreds of millions in settlements to at least 200 women.
