# Isao Takahata

> He co-founded Studio Ghibli and directed Grave of the Fireflies, one of the most devastating war films ever made in any medium. His work sits in Miyazaki's shadow for most audiences, but among animation directors his formal control and emotional precision are studied like scripture.
