# Herbert Lange

> Herbert Lange was a member of the German SS during the Nazi era. He was the commandant of Chełmno extermination camp until April 1942, as well as the leader of the SS Special Detachment Lange, in charge of the extermination of Jews from the Łódź Ghetto. Lange was responsible for numerous crimes against humanity, including the murder of mentally disabled patients in Poland and in Germany during the Aktion T4 "euthanasia" programme. He was one of the main perpetrators of the Holocaust.
