## Bio

Henry Gwyn Jeffreys Moseley was born on 23 November 1887. His development of Moseley's law in X-ray spectra justified the concept of atomic number from physical laws, providing the first experimental evidence for Niels Bohr's theory beyond the hydrogen spectrum and refining the Rutherford–van den Broek model of the nucleus. When World War I broke out, he left his research at the University of Oxford to volunteer for the Royal Engineers. Assigned as a telecommunications officer with the British Empire force that invaded Gallipoli in April 1915, he was shot and killed during the battle on 10 August 1915. He was 27, and experts have speculated he would otherwise have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1916.
