## Bio

Born in Karlsruhe in 1900, Frank joined the German Workers' Party early and took part in the failed Beer Hall Putsch. He became Adolf Hitler's personal legal adviser and the Nazi Party's lawyer, rising to Reichsleiter in June 1933 and joining the Hitler Cabinet as a minister without portfolio in December 1934. After the German invasion of Poland in 1939, he was appointed Governor-General of the occupied Polish territories. There he instituted a reign of terror, became directly involved in the mass murder of Jews, engaged in the use of forced labour, and oversaw four extermination camps. He remained in that position until the General Government's collapse in early 1945. Found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity at the Nuremberg trials, he was sentenced to death and hanged on 16 October 1946.
