# Hafiz Uddin Ahmad

> Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, also known as Major Hafiz, is a Bangladeshi politician, former military officer, and retired footballer serving as the acting President of Bangladesh since 24 July to 21 August 2026. A former senior member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), he assumed the interim presidency in his constitutional capacity as the Speaker of Parliament, following the resignation of Mohammed Shahabuddin. Under Article 54 of the Constitution of Bangladesh, the Speaker exercises presidential authority until a new president is elected by Parliament within 90 days under Article 123(1).
