## Bio

Born Gobind Das on 22 December 1666, he was formally installed as the tenth Sikh Guru in 1675 when Aurangzeb beheaded his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur. A warrior and poet, he founded the Khalsa in 1699—the Sikh warrior community bound by the Five Ks, the articles of faith worn at all times. He authored the Dasam Granth, hymns now woven into Sikh prayer and ritual, and finalized the Guru Granth Sahib as Sikhism's eternal scripture and successor Guru. Wazir Khan executed two of his sons; the other two fell in battle. He established Paonta Sahib in 1685 and Damdama Sahib in 1705, and died 7 October 1708, the last human to hold the title.
