## Bio

After a troubled childhood, Foreman won heavyweight gold at the 1968 Summer Olympics and turned pro the next year. In 1973 he demolished the undefeated Joe Frazier in two rounds to become world champion, defended twice, then lost the title to Muhammad Ali in "The Rumble in the Jungle" in 1974. He retired in 1977 after a loss to Jimmy Young, became an ordained Christian minister following what he called a born again experience, and stayed out of the ring for a decade. He announced a comeback in 1987, and in 1994 — at age 45 — knocked out 26-year-old Michael Moorer to reclaim the unified heavyweight title, becoming the oldest heavyweight champion in history and earning Associated Press Athlete of the Year honors. He relinquished both major belts within a year rather than face mandated defenses, retired for good in 1997 with a record of 76 wins and 5 losses, and later sold the commercial rights to the George Foreman Grill for $138 million — more than a hundred million units moved worldwide.
