## Bio

Geoffrey of Monmouth produced The History of the Kings of Britain sometime in the mid-1100s, a sweeping Latin chronicle that claimed to trace the island's rulers back through the centuries. Readers across medieval Europe treated it as legitimate history, translating it into multiple languages and citing it as source material. The book's portrait of Arthur - the sword, the knights, the tragic end - became the template that fed every later telling. For roughly four centuries, Geoffrey's account held historical credibility, accepted by scholars and chroniclers alike. By the 16th century, skeptics began dismantling it, and modern consensus is clear: the work is historically unreliable, more invention than record. But the damage, if you can call it that, was done - the Arthur he shaped outlasted the history he faked.
