Florentino Pérez started in private-sector engineering in 1971 and dabbled in center-right politics through the 1980s before landing the Real Madrid presidency in 2000. His first move was the Galácticos policy: buy the planet's best — Figo from Barcelona, Zidane for a world record, Ronaldo, Beckham. Three trophyless seasons later, he resigned in 2006. He returned in 2009 and did it again, this time landing Kaká, Cristiano Ronaldo for another record fee, and later Gareth Bale. Between 2013 and 2024, Madrid won six Champions League titles; across both tenures, seven total under Pérez — a record.
