# Elissa

> Elissa built her dominance in Arab pop by threading heartbreak through every note - a style so committed to romantic anguish that Lebanon crowned her "Queen of Emotions." Three World Music Awards and 30 million albums sold later, she walked away from Rotana in 2022 over control of her masters and launched her own label instead.

## Bio

Elissar Zakaria Khoury took silver on the Lebanese talent show Studio El Fan in 1992 and spent the next decade working toward a break. It came in 2002 with "Ayshalak," a single that moved enough units to make Rotana sign her and eventually turn her into the label's top seller. Between 2004 and 2020 she released nine albums under Rotana - Ahla Dounya, Bastanak, and Tesada'a Bemeen each winning her a World Music Award for best-selling Middle Eastern artist - and racked up over a billion streams on Anghami, making her the platform's most-streamed woman. The relationship soured over her masters; in 2022 she pulled her catalogue from Spotify, YouTube, and Anghami, founded E-Records, and released Ana Sekketen in 2024 on her own terms.
