## Bio

Eleonore Magdalene Therese was born 6 January 1655 and became the third wife of Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor. Before marriage and after his death, she lived ascetically, translating the Bible from Latin to German and championing the Order of the Discalced Carmelites. Reputed as one of the most educated and virtuous women of her era, she engaged in political affairs throughout her husband's reign and her sons', focusing on court revenue and foreign relations. In 1711 she served as regent for several months, during which she signed the Treaty of Szatmár — recognizing her descendants' rights to the Hungarian throne. She died 19 January 1720.
