# Daniel Vávra

> He wrote the mob drama that defined early-2000s crime games, then walked away from the sequel mid-production to build a studio that would spend seven years on a medieval RPG with no dragons, no magic, just mud and peasant stew.

## Bio

Daniel Vávra started at Illusion Softworks in 1998 as a graphic artist on Hidden & Dangerous, then became lead writer on Mafia, the 2002 gangster game that set a tone. He stayed through the mid-2000s, writing Mafia II as the studio was bought by 2K Games in 2008 and rebranded 2K Czech. The restructuring didn't take - Vávra left in early 2009, months before the sequel shipped. In 2011 he and Martin Klíma founded Warhorse Studios, which released Kingdom Come: Deliverance in 2018, a role-playing game set in 15th-century Bohemia with Vávra as lead writer. Koch Media bought Warhorse in 2019; Vávra stayed on as creative director, and the studio released Kingdom Come: Deliverance II in 2025.
