## Bio

Born 5 October 1947, Johnson fronted Newcastle band Geordie from 1971, scoring a UK Top 10 with "All Because of You" in 1973 before the group split in 1978. When Bon Scott died on 19 February 1980, the Young brothers remembered Scott had once praised Johnson's stage presence and invited him to audition. Back in Black followed — a transition The Guardian ranked among the 50 key events in rock history. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with AC/DC in 2003. Hearing problems forced him off the Rock or Bust tour in March 2016, but he quietly rejoined in August 2018 to record Power Up, confirmed two years later. In 2014, Northumbria University gave him an honorary doctorate for his contribution to music.
