Boris Bondarev was born in 1980 and entered Russia's foreign service, eventually landing at the permanent mission to the United Nations Office in Geneva in 2019. He worked there through the opening years of the pandemic and into early 2022. When Russia invaded Ukraine that February, he stayed at his post for three months.
