# Apetor

> A Norwegian painter who filmed himself drinking vodka on frozen lakes, skating, diving into ice holes, staying mostly silent. The videos found a worldwide audience - especially in Poland - for reasons equal parts mesmerizing and uneasy. He died in 2021 doing what made him known: he fell through the ice while recording.

## Bio

Tor Eckhoff started uploading in 2006, but it was 2011 when the quiet winter stunts began pulling eyes. He worked days at a Jotun paint factory in Sandefjord and shot the videos for himself, not income. The format held: vodka, sub-zero water, near-naked plunges, almost no speech. Some called it dangerous, others called it art. By November 2021 he had fifteen years of footage behind him. On the 27th he went through the ice of a lake west of Kongsberg, camera running. He was 57.
