Andrew Murray turned pro in 2005 into a landscape owned by Federer and Nadal, cracked the top 10 at 19, and by 2010 had forced his way into what became the Big Four. He lost his first four major finals before beating Federer for Olympic gold at the 2012 London Games, then took the US Open a month later - Britain's first major singles champion since 1977. A year later he won Wimbledon, ending an 77-year wait for a home men's champion. In 2015 he carried Great Britain to its first Davis Cup title in the Open Era, winning eleven rubbers. His peak came in 2016: a second Wimbledon, a second Olympic gold in Rio, the year-end No. 1 ranking, and the ATP Finals crown. A hip injury soon after required resurfacing surgery; he returned to win one more title in 2019 but never reached another major round of 16. He retired after the 2024 Paris Olympics doubles quarterfinals, then took a coaching role with Djokovic in 2025.
