# Andy Lau

> He's been a Hong Kong fixture for forty years - one of the Four Heavenly Kings, a three-time winner at the Hong Kong Film Awards, and holder of a Guinness record for sheer volume of music trophies. The durability is the story: still here, still central.

## Bio

Lau Tak-wah was born Lau Fook-wing in September 1961 and came up through TVB in the 1980s as one of the Five Tiger Generals, a crop of young leads who defined the era. The 1990s brought the Four Heavenly Kings label and parallel stardom in Cantopop - by 2000 he'd racked up enough awards (444 by 2006) to earn a Guinness entry for most trophies won by a male Cantopop artist. Film honours followed: three Best Actor wins at the Hong Kong Film Awards, two at the Golden Horse. In 2018 the Academy invited him in, and in 2024 he was elected vice chairman of the China Film Association. Four decades on, he remains one of the most commercially and critically successful figures in the Chinese-speaking world.
