## Bio

Born in Catalão in 1951, Batista spent more than 40 years turning out records that moved units: 38 albums, 28 gold, 28 platinum, and one diamond certification. He crossed into film in the 1980s, appearing in a handful of Brazilian movies while the albums kept coming. The numbers added up to over 13 million records sold and a place - number 86 - in a national poll for the greatest Brazilian of all time. The awards piled up by the hundreds, and the sales ledger confirmed what the certifications already said: he was one of the highest-volume artists in the history of Brazilian music.
