His career connected Munich Jugendstil, the artistic circle around Wassily Kandinsky and Marianne von Werefkin, the experimental theatre at Hellerau, the avant-garde culture of revolutionary Tiflis and the French circle surrounding the spiritual teacher George Gurdjieff.
