# Alain Prost

> Four Formula One world titles and a nickname that stuck: "the Professor." Prost drove with a precision that made racing look cerebral - calculating lines, conserving machinery, winning by thinking further ahead than everyone else on the grid.

## Bio

Born in Lorette in 1955, Prost won the junior karting World Cup at 18 and swept through French formulae before claiming the 1979 European Formula 3 title. He debuted with McLaren in 1980, moved to Renault for his first Grand Prix win on home soil in 1981, then lost the 1983 championship to Piquet after a turbo blew in the final race - Renault fired him two days later. Back at McLaren he took his first title in 1985, defended it in 1986, then collided twice with new teammate Senna in title-deciders at Suzuka - 1989 and 1990 - winning the first, losing the second after jumping to Ferrari. Sacked again in 1991 for criticizing the car, he returned with Williams in 1993 to claim a fourth crown and retire with 51 wins, the most in history at the time. He later ran his own team, co-owned a Formula E outfit that won three straight titles, and collected three Andros Trophy ice racing championships.
