## Bio

Ahn Jung-hwan was born 27 January 1976 in South Korea and built a reputation as a technically gifted forward who showed up when it mattered. He played in three World Cups for his country, but the tournament that defined him came in 2002: his extra-time header against Italy in the Round of 16 sent the co-hosts through and made him a national hero overnight. The fallout was swift - his Serie A club, Perugia, cut him loose almost immediately, the president calling his goal an act of betrayal. After hanging up his boots, Ahn pivoted to television and found a second career as a football commentator and host, becoming a fixture on South Korean screens. He's also known for his charity work, though the goal against Italy is still the line that follows him everywhere.
